devil’s BIG LIE TO OUR HEART

Honestly, growing up as a Christian was very intimidating. I’m not trying to be ungrateful for the privilege of Godly upbringing, or anything close to it, but I (and others I believe) saw being a Christian as a very difficult task. I believed hearing from God was a rare privilege reserved for only those that have put in so much work to get to God, like; praying and fasting, and making sure you lock yourself up while you’re at it, memorizing huge amount of scriptures, spending hours at night reading and studying the word… now, I’m not condemning any of these, in fact if you’ve read my previous posts, you’ll know I totally encourage them, without reservations… but the way these actions were presented to me was very intimidating and it made me feel that getting to God was very hard.

I just felt He can’t speak to me, if I didn’t give in so much time. I felt He had little or no time for me because I obviously couldn’t put in so much work. I prayed, didn’t get answers. I read the scriptures, but couldn’t understand pass the stories, I asked God to help me not make mistake, but I made mistakes anyway.  “Of course, why will any work when I got angry with someone yesterday” I’ll tell myself. Maybe there’s a sin that God hadn’t forgiven me for, I would think.

So I would tell myself things like:

This Christian thing is hard. So why push any further? I can just manage where I am. At the end of the day I’m not going to hell.

Being ALL that God wants me to be is no child’s play… it’s work, HARD work. Having a close relationship with Him is not easy. It is a “cannot” for me. The best I can have is a relationship from afar.

Are you like the old me?

Have you tried to establish a close relationship with Jesus, and it’s just not working?

Do you hear people share testimonies about their relationship with Jesus and you feel like “that can never be me” or “I wish that was me.”

Or maybe yours is different:

Maybe you’re just scared of losing yourself. You’re just scared of what might become of your life if you surrender completely. You don’t want to truly get close to Him… you believe that if you do, your life will be awkward. You believe He’ll resist you from enjoying life. You believe God will tell you to drop things that are important to you, things that you love so much, things that complete you. Hence, you believe that’ll be very hard for you to do.

Let me tell you a simple truth;

That’s a BIG LIE from the devil

Having a close relationship with Jesus is not hard

Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew 11: 28-30 tells us:

“Come to Me, all you who labour
And are heavy-laden and over burden,
And I will cause you to rest— I will
Ease and relieve and refresh your souls.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me;
For I am gentle (meek) and humbly (lowly) in heart
And you will find rest—relieve, ease and
Refreshment and recreation, and blessed quiet—
 For your souls.
For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good)
—not harsh, sharp or pressing, but comfortable, gracious
 And pleasant; and My
Burden is light and easy to be borne.” (AMP)

I remember the day this scripture came alive to me like never before, I literally asked “do Christians come around this part of the scriptures?”

Outside a relationship with Jesus is where labour and burden lives, not in a relationship with Him. The rest our entire being wants is in Christ, not outside. Refreshment, recreation, and relieve are in Christ, not outside.

Jesus says that His yoke is not “sharp” “harsh” or “pressing”; a direct opposite of what so many persons believe. Jesus says He’s “gentle” meaning He’s not about to put so much pressure on us. He’s “lowly” meaning He’s not trying to just Lord over us, without hearing us out. He truly cares about how we feel. And of course, Jesus invites us to learn of Him. Why? So we can truly see, for ourselves, Who He really is.

So if it’s not hard why can’t I just get to Him?

If it’s not hard why do I dislike things that Christians do?

Simple: we believed a lie.

First, you don’t need to get to Him because He’s already very close to you. He got to you first.  If you’re a Christian, then He’s one with your spirit, if you’re yet to accept the offering of Jesus, He’s standing at the door of your heart, knocking. Either way, He’s closer than you think.

Not only is He so close, but more than you want to, He wants the relationship with Him to work… and work so easily. Now imagine Jesus sitting next to you, what would you do?… Go ahead… pause… and do exactly what’s on your mind.

If I’m you, I’ll talk to Him… and tell Him exactly how I feel.

Tell Him you’re afraid to lose the things you love, if you go all in for Him… go on… He won’t be mad, because He already knows what’s going on in your head yet He still loves you like crazy. Tell Him you want to trust Him but you don’t know how to. Tell Him how you’ve tried to get to Him without a bit of success. Tell Him that the life He wants you to live feels so hard and burdensome… tell Him how you feel… tell Him any and everything… HE ‘LL ANSWER.

The devil is trying to mess with our mind. We can’t let him no more!

“The thief comes only in order that
He may steal and may kill and may
Destroy. I came that they may have
And enjoy life, and have it in abundance—
To full, till it overflows”
John 10:10 (AMP)

“For in Him we live and move
And have our being…”
Acts 17:28 (AMP)

If we put the above scriptures together we understand that:  1.Jesus came so we can enjoy life. 2. To enjoy this life we need to be close to Him… so how can God make the process HARD?… He can’t. It is just the devil trying to steal the TRUTH from us, and replacing it with lies.

Knowing the TRUTH is the difference

“And you will know the truth, and
The truth will set you free”
John 8:32 (AMP)

This truth will set you FREE!

Understanding the devil’s BIG lie is knowing the weak point of your enemy; it is not just ordinary. Mediate on these verses of the Bible and pray along with them.

The word is a sword, only it is sharper than any two-edged sword; and it’s meant for just one enemy—the devil. Use it against Him, when he comes with his lies again… he cannot stand it.

When we believe in God’s word, we stand in agreement with the One whose footstool is the earth— this outweighs powerful … we affirm our victory in Jesus. The difference between the old me and the new me that’s writing this is… knowledge of the truth.

It’s an invisible gym, where the Holy Spirit works in us to WILL and DO… it’s not hard, harsh, or pressing… actually, it is full of peace, joy, relieve, ease, refreshment, recreation, and blessed quiet for our souls.

Don’t believe that lie no more…

You can… so…

Stay Spiritually Fit.
