What’s Cool?

Dear Believer, Christians are never going to be like the world

There is a difference between being a believer and being an unbeliever, and that is not going to change. God’s Word and the instructions that come in it are far too superior to bow before any generation, time and season. God’s Word isn’t going to change, it’s going to stay just the way it is, until the end of time. If this is true, and it is so true, then as a believer you need to do a self-check. You need to see how well your life is aligned to God’s Word. Are you letting your generation, times and seasons define what you believe and how you live your life or are you living your life according to God’s principles, as seen in the Bible.

Our generation is making us feel like we’re experiencing what is unknown to man…but that’s just a lie from the pit of hell

Read the history of the early church, and then you’ll know that you’re not alone. Believers before you were persecuted too. The rejection of the of the Gospel didn’t start in our generation. The spite, contempt and ridicule didn’t begin with us. In 1 Corinthians 10:13, the Bible says, “For there is no temptation— no trial regarded as enticing to sin [no matter how it comes or where it leads]— has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man.” (AMPC). Actually, when we feel the weight of persecutions and trials we have stories in the Bible to encourage us.  From the moment Jesus was arrested down to this current generation, the church has been under great persecution, and it is not going to change. 2 Timothy 3:12 tells us, “For all who choose to live godly as worshipers of Jesus, the Anointed one, will also experience persecution.” (TPT). In Mark 10: 29-30, Jesus said the same thing, only He said it like a promise. He said we will receive a hundredfold of all we gave up for Him “with persecution.” Let’s settle this once and for all. Persecution is part of the deal. If you’re doing all you can to avoid spite, ridicule and contempt from the world, that’s a sign that you’re not all in with Jesus. It means you’re giving up the authenticity of your faith in Jesus.

Our definition of “cool” is different

Okay, true is, we can agree with the world on some “cools.”  For example, we can all agree that graduating at the top of your class is cool. Breaking an Olympic record? Super cool, we can all agree on that. However, we can never agree on some other things. The “cool principles” that guide our choices and decisions can’t never be the same with that of an unbeliever…and that’s not just cool, it’s super cool. For example, you cannot be a believer and yet believe that Christians should turn down the volume of the supernatural. We cannot separate the supernatural from our walk with God. If you’re a believer and you’re not operating in the supernatural that’s even super “uncool.” I don’t mean to sound harsh, but actually it doesn’t make sense.

When Jesus resurrected from the grave, He appeared to the eleven disciples (Judas had committed suicide) and commanded them to go into the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. Jesus went ahead to say, “These signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Mark 16: 17-18 (KJV).

It doesn’t matter what you do, or where you are, if you’re a believer, the command to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus is for you too, and signs and wonders follows believers. How then can we separate our lives from the supernatural? You want to go into politics? Well, how did Daniel, Joseph, Esther, and Nehemiah become relevant in secular governments? You want to sing? Well, it took someone like David to play sounds that kept the evil spirits away from Saul. You want to be an artist? Well, God gave men patterns to build His temple. Have you read about King Solomon? Did you see that his wisdom wasn’t from this realm? How did the Gospel spread? Definitely not without miracles, signs and wonders. As a believer, your “cool” is at the center of the supernatural.

My prayer for you and me:

Like never before, may our hearts carve for Jesus, His Glory and Power…and may we never be distracted by what the world thinks of us, say about us and do to us. Amen.

Stay Spiritually Fit.
