Beyond Me

I went to God in prayers. I went to pour out my heart before Him. There were many things I needed to be better. As I prayed, I had pauses in-between the prayer. It wasn’t one of those days when my prayer time was just me saying all I wanted to say and then just off and go. It was one of those days when my prayer time was actually a conversation between me and the Holy Spirit. The pauses in-between the prayer time was for me to know what the Holy Spirit was laying in my heart through the Bible, and me imagining what the answers to my prayers will look like. As I imagined what my answers will look like…guess what? My human senses where in the way.

I didn’t know how much of my human sense was in the way, until I saw a verse in Proverbs 11, as I read the Bible. It was the twenty-eight verse. It says. “He who leans on, trusts and is confident in his riches shall fall…” (AMPC) The Holy Spirit used this verse to convict me. Before this verse all I could imagine was how my answer will come from me; what I have and who I was, physically. I had thoughts like:

“How can I get there when I’m here?”

“Where will the money come from, when all I have in my account is this?”

“What’s the possibility of meeting an opportunity like this?”

Truth is: if I can figure it all out, then I don’t need God. If all I want have to come from my physical state, then my inheritance is the heavenly places is out of the picture. The Holy Spirit had to remind me that. As the Holy Spirit convicted me I saw myself writing the following words in my Bible study journal:

“The reason we are confident about today and tomorrow shouldn’t be because of what we own or who we are, physically…even if what we own and who we are, physically, can see us through…even if what we own and who we are is more than enough reason to be confident. Our confidence…all of our confidence…should be in Jesus.”

Why should all of our confidence be in Jesus? All of our confidence should be in Jesus because He’s the only constant in our lives. He is the only source that can’t fail. Who we are and all we have can fail us. You can lose everything you have in life in a twinkle…but no matter what life throws at you, no matter where life takes you…you’ll always have Jesus.

Yes God uses people and things, but He doesn’t expect us to put our trust in people or things. By all means get your training and degree, but you’re limiting your inheritance in Christ if you believe the degree is the reason you’ll prosper. You don’t need the degree to be as relevant as, or more relevant than people who have the degree. Look beyond you; look to Jesus.

Man’s “most perfect” ways are still foolishness before God. Let Jesus, your Good Shepherd, guide you. Jesus might still take you through the route that is common to man, but your experience will be different. There’s more to you than what and all you can see. Don’t stoop so low. Look beyond you; look to Jesus.

Philippians 3:3 says, “For we (Christians) are the true circumcision, who worship God in spirit, and by the Spirit of God, and exult and glory and pride ourselves in Jesus Christ. And put no confidence or dependence [on what we are] in the flesh and on outward privileges and physical advantages and external appearances.” (AMPC)

Also, Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that will [dare] ask or think—infinitely beyond our highest prayer, desires, thoughts, hopes and dreams.” (AMPC)

The resources that available for us in heaven are limitless. We shouldn’t ask based on how reasonable it sounds or how achievable it is before us. When we ask and hope based on our human reasoning and senses, we won’t get God’s best for us. Look beyond you; look to Jesus.

The stories that inspire us in the Bible are stories of men and women like us who believed God for things that were far beyond human reasoning. Let’s create a short list:

David used a stone and slingshot to bring down a big giant.

Moses stretched out a dry stick and the red sea parted.

The shouts of the Israelites brought down the walls of Jericho.

Jesus used five loaves of bread and two fishes to feed thousands.

A virgin called Mary became pregnant.

A man died and after four days he came back to life.

A woman who suffered for twelve years in sickness became healed because she touched Jesus’ garment

Peter’s shadow healed the sick…and the list can go on and on.

Ask and imagine like a child. Children ask for the impossible. There are no limits to their imagination. They believe they can have what they ask for…and that explains why they throw tantrums when their requests, sometimes, aren’t granted. I’m not saying we should throw tantrums before God like a child, but like a child, we should learn to ask Him for things that are beyond human reasoning…according to His promises in the Bible. We are, after all, His children…and fellow heir with Jesus.

When you ask God for something…LOOK BEYOND YOU; LOOK TO JESUS.

My prayer for you and me:

I pray we begin to see Jesus as our only source for anything and everything. I pray we begin to allow the Holy Spirit give us our prayer language. I pray we find ourselves asking BIG. I pray we watch our faith grow higher and get larger…and may we experience God’s Goodness, Wisdom and Power like never before.
